Matelica

Matelica is in Macerata province in the Marche region inland. The city has about 11 000 inhabitants and is located at 354 m hi Esino river valley. The area consists of hills which are in the higher mountain valley along the crest, including the Monte San Vicino. To the city "frazioni" (villages that belong to the city Matelica) include: Balzani, Braccano, Castiglione, Cavalieri, Colferraio, Collepere, Colli, Mistriano, Pezze, Piana, Poggeto, San Nicola, Terri Coli, Valbonne, Vinano Communication-wise Matelica easily reached by both air (Falconara / Ancona), which by car and train.

 

In the middle of Matelica is located Piazza Mattei, with its elegant white OCTAGONAL 1700-century fountain. Here you'll find several of the city's main attractions, including Ottoni family Loggia built by the influential family during the 1500s. There are also medieval building Palazzo Pretorio, crowned by a tower that was built in the 1700s.
Of great interest is also the city's cathedral, located on the main street Corso Vittorio Emanuele, and Maddalenakyrkan with its Romanesque facade and portal.
Matelica origin can be traced back to the PALEOLITHIC period, when the first building work was done.
The city's economy has previously been based on agriculture, but during the last century, the area's small industries have become the major source of income. The largest farms currently includes wine. The city has become something of a commercial hub in the region. During the course of three years opened three shopping malls in the area, and several new shops in the old city Matelica

In Matelica are several interesting museums. Both archaeological finds as art by local artists is exhibited to the public. Below is a list of the most important:


Museo Civico Archeologico
Matelica archaeological museum. The exhibitions consist mainly of finds from excavations in arkeolgiska areas.

Hours:

Winter (October-June)
Monday to Sunday morning: 10.30 - 12.30
Monday to Friday em: 16.30 - 18.30
Weekends (other red days): 16.30 - 18.30

Summer (July to September)
Tuesday to Sunday 10.30 - 13.00, 16.30 - 19.00



Museo Piersanti
Art museum with collections of Venanzio Filippo Piers Antipolis, donated to the city of 1901. Among the artists can be found, among other things, Bellini, Antonio di Fabriano, Francesco di Gentile da Fabriano, Salvator Rosa and Carlo Marat.

Winter (November 1 to Easter):
Saturday and Sunday: 10-12, 16-18

Summer: 10-12, 17-19



Pinacoteca comunale "Raffaele Fidanza"

Art museum in Palazzo Ottoni. Permanent exhibition that includes a 52 works by the artist Raffaele Fidanza.
